CONCEPT
This EP is a conceptual work that fits perfectly into the zeitgeist, as conceptual and cohesive bodies of work in certain genres are currently experiencing a renaissance. At its core, it explores emotional introspection and the complex dynamics of human relationships. The central theme, "Unspoken Ties," investigates the quiet emotional connections we hold - the words left unsaid and the feelings that simmer beneath the surface. It's a concept that will hit home for anyone who’s felt the weight of what’s left unspoken in their relationships.
I set out to explore the themes of the EP on my own, but since it's all about connection, I didn’t want to shy away from bringing in a range of collaborators. The result is a blend of tracks - some recorded solo in my room, and others created with up to 12 people in the studio. You can find the EP's credits at the bottom of this page.
I know your time is valuable, but if you've made it this far, I highly recommend listening to the EP in its entirety, including the connecting pieces and transitions. It’s the best way to fully experience and understand the concept behind it.
ABOUT FREDRIK
Musical Background and Bio here.
My artist journey truly began in late 2022 when I started studying music in Berlin. Though I had released music before, it was during this time that my vision for my sound started to take shape.
In May 2023, I released "Can I Say It Yet?" co-written with Izzy Diaz, which marked a turning point for me. The song, with its minimalist arrangement, explores harmony and shifting time signatures, all while focusing on storytelling through captivating melodies, occasionally enhanced by the warmth of strings. It resonated deeply with listeners, quickly landing on a Spotify playlist and catching the attention of tastemaker DJ Chris Douridas at LA’s KCRW, who featured it on his show and put it on heavy rotation on KCRW’s Eclectic 24.
The response to that release gave me the momentum to pursue my vision further, and this EP feels like another step towards refining it. Oddly Weird draws inspiration from artists like Madison Cunningham, Joni Mitchell, MARO, Jacob Collier, and Nick Drake. It’s a blend of complex time signatures, rich harmonies, and dynamic shifts between tension and release. The lyrics dive into themes of human connection and the challenges that come with it, weaving together intimate stories that are both personal and relatable.
ASPIRATIONS
My main goal with this release is to reach a wider audience through well-planned promotion and ultimately bring my music to the stage. So far, I’ve only played a handful of intimate solo shows and supported a band, but after completing the Kontaktstudiengang Popkurs 24 in Hamburg, I’ve gained invaluable insight into myself as an artist and how I want to present my music. I now feel ready to take things to the next level.
Currently, I'm assembling a full band and preparing to start performing live with them. Over the next year, I aim to find support from key industry partners - whether through a publisher, label, manager, or private person - to help me grow and bring this vision to life. I’m excited to move forward and eager to collaborate with professionals who believe in my music as much as I do.
EP PROMOTION & RELEASE PLAN
Ideally, I want to have secured support to assist me in organizing and planning the release when the time comes; however, this is my current strategy.
